A social investment to increase the diversity of teams accessing venture capital support in tech

The Foundation has made a social investment in Cornerstone VC, born out of black-led angel group Cornerstone Partners, to invest in exceptional entrepreneurs in the UK from  underrepresented backgrounds, and  regions who are often overlooked and underestimated by the wider funding community and find it harder to access investment. This is a crucial aspect for delivering the Foundation’s mission that the tech sector harnesses the talents of all.

The fund focuses on tech-enabled companies at pre-seed and seed stage. It plans to invest in up to 40 companies with a significant proportion based outside of London. Cornerstone VC is also offering support to scale companies through HR support, strategy and funding support, and an expert network of function specialists, as well as building the next generation of tech investors through its training programme.

“We are on a mission to put teams at the heart of our investment approach, believing diversity is key to driving outperformance. We are looking for businesses that are intentional about team composition, can excel in high growth environments and are truly obsessive about execution. People first, software second.”
